Demonstration Project of Arundo Donax Biomass Pyrolysis Hydrogen Production Industrial Park

2026年08月16日 项目案例

Project Overview

This project is a demonstration industrial park for the resource‑based utilization of agricultural and forest biomass in Southwest China, with a total planned land area of 120 mu. It is supported by a ten‑thousand‑mu Arundo donax planting base built on marginal land. Based on Arundo donax biomass feedstock, the project adopts Tianhuan Hydrogen Source’s patented regenerative fast pyrolysis hydrogen‑production process with a down‑flow bed, building a complete closed‑loop industrial chain of “Arundo donax cultivation on marginal land — feedstock collection, storage and pretreatment — pyrolysis‑based hydrogen production — deep‑processing of co‑products — carbon sink development”.

Arundo donax is planted on non‑basic farmland such as barren hills and mine‑reclaimed land without occupying cultivated land. After crushing and drying pretreatment, Arundo donax feedstock is fed into the pyrolysis reactor for pyrolysis conversion under oxygen‑free conditions to produce high‑purity hydrogen. Meanwhile, multiple high‑value‑added by‑products including biomethanol, bio‑jet fuel precursors and activated biochar are co‑produced. The pyrolysis unit adopts indirect heating via radiant tubes, which physically isolates flue gas from product gas to guarantee hydrogen purity. More than 1180 Nm³ of high‑purity hydrogen can be generated from one tonne of dry‑basis Arundo donax feedstock. The by‑product biochar can be applied for soil remediation and mine restoration. Biological carbon sequestration is calculated correspondingly, and carbon sink resources are available for external trading.

The project is equipped with workshops for feedstock collection‑storage, main pyrolysis hydrogen‑production facilities, by‑product deep‑processing workshops and a carbon‑sink accounting laboratory. A dedicated carbon‑asset development team is assigned to complete carbon‑sink verification, filing and trading for the project. The produced hydrogen can be supplied to local industrial consumers, or interfaced with PEM electrolyzers and hydrogen‑storage equipment to expand downstream hydrogen‑energy applications.

Project Implementation Scope

  1. Planning for the ten‑thousand‑mu Arundo donax planting base and export of planting technologies;
  2. Design, supply and installation of complete process equipment for biomass pyrolysis hydrogen production;
  3. Construction of feedstock pretreatment system and by‑product treatment system;
  4. Carbon‑sink development, third‑party verification and filing application for the project;
  5. Technical guidance for industrial‑park operation and personnel training.

Project Outputs & Value

Approximately 45 000 tonnes of Arundo donax biomass feedstock are consumed annually to produce green hydrogen, biomethanol, biochar and other products, realizing resource conversion of agricultural and forest wastes. Barren hills and wastelands are transformed into industrial resources to boost local employment in agriculture and forestry. Realizing carbon‑negative hydrogen production different from electrolytic hydrogen production, the project achieves genuine full‑chain carbon removal. Carbon‑sink revenue can further reduce hydrogen production costs. It builds a domestic full‑chain demonstration park for Arundo donax biomass hydrogen production and provides a complete implementable model for the domestic biomass hydrogen‑production industry utilizing marginal land.

Core Services

Supply of complete sets of biomass hydrogen‑production equipment, overall industrial‑park scheme design, raw‑material base planning, carbon‑sink development and technology export.
